Flappers

This is my last day at work! My internship has been both rewarding and sien (mostly due to waking up early zzz) at the same time so I'm having mixed feeling about leaving. But whatever, with two more weeks or so til CNY, I shall take a well-deserved break and spend the last moments of my summer holiday rejuvenating B-)

So anyway, I just finished reading Twenties Girl by Sophia Kinsella (of the Shopaholic fame). Its about this 21st century lonely, fresh-from-being-dumped girl called Lara who gets visited by the ghost of her really glamorous great-aunt Sadie, who lived her peak years in the 1920s. This ghost comes in the form of her great-aunt at 23 years old, and she sort of guides Lara like a guardian angel, teaching her how to live like a headstrong, classy girl from the 1920s. Albeit chick lit, there were some really insightful lessons I got off the novel. Plus it got me really interested in 20s fashion. Go google it. It is damn glam.




Women back then were really...... women. Femenine but wise, strong but soft-spoken, fashionable but dignified.

Or maybe I'm just thinking of Coco Chanel.
Haha.

Looking back on the festive season this Dec'09/Jan'10, there was a lot to celebrate. Reunions, Christmas, welcoming the new decade, birthdays, farewells and the likes. What a great way to end a tremendous year and kick off a year that will hopefully bring on big things for us all:)

CHRISTMAS

X'mas eve dinner with Eevon, Caca and some high school friends + their boyfs

We ate at the Jap restaurant next to Equator, they call it the jail restaurant cuz the place is set up like a prison. Err.. well the food kinda tastes like what you would serve to inmates. (Ok la, it wasn't that bad, but not what you'd want your X'mas eve meal to be like)

On a positive note, it was really amusingly cute how they served drinks in laboratory apparatus, eg. beakers, conical flasks, test tubes etc. :)

A very packed UPR, and it took forever for us to get a seat at any eatery/pub/bar.

Very soon after was Ee Von's birthday, and we celebrated with Xuan Xin dinner, karaoke at my place, a surprise at midnight and a good ol' sleepover. I don't have any of the photos from her surprise, but I'll bet she wouldn't want a pic of her in tears posted up anyway;)

Yes, please go ahead and laugh at my Disney Princesses bedsheet. I still have them and I love it okay *very defensive*

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010

Went down to KL with the fam so I got to celebrate it with Jiah Lit+my family+family friends

Met up with Shen, Eric, Izzie and Carmen too! 

Back in Penang a few days later, I had dinner + catch-up session with Ann Ting, Sherine, Ee Lynn, and Aimy before that. Its always good to just talk with them, cuz y'know...we talk a lot. And it goes on and on:) We are fascinating people ma.

WISHING SHER LYN FAREWELL

It was very bittersweet to say bye to Sher as she left for KL for her internship. It means I won't be seeing her until mid-year, and I'll miss her like crazysiaolangcrap, but at the same time I know she'll grow and learn loads there. 

Went to her house two nights before she left to have a last heart-to-heart, and damn I've never laughed so hard in a really really long time. You are truly something, lao ee. Do not let other things pull you down, because I know you can do it:)  <3

Hope everyone has been keeping to their resolutions so far?

For those who don't know, I'm currently doing an internship at a legal firm, its only for month. But this is my first job ever, there's a lot to soak up and I learn something new everyday. Though I'm really starting to see how the working world is like (not by doing the work myself, because lets face it, I'm an intern, what important job are they gonna let me do?) just through observing an office. And its not good, people. I think I'm gonna choose to study for as long as possible. 

Anyways, this is really overdue but I've been quite busy since I got back to Penang, so this is about a month too late:) A few days after I landed back in Penang, I met up with Lynn and Tracy, two high school friends of mine who are currently very avid photogs:) They have been doing quite a lot of portrait shoots (ie. with people) and are really getting good at it:D So when they spontaneously asked me to do a shoot with them the next day, I happily accepted and was excited to see them in action and have them shoot me.

Click click flash flash. Wahh...it turned out to be an exhausting but nevertheless really cool day. I was asked to jump repeatedly, do dance-ish pose, balance on one leg and hold for like a million seconds, and not look like I was cringing inside. Hahaha tiring but very fun.

Feel free to approach these exciting new talents (ie. my friends la) and get them to shoot you! You get to choose your concept, setting, outfit etc. and voice out whatever you envision yourself to be. There's nothing like seeing yourself be transformed onto film, and that's what they do best:)

It Seems Only Appropriate

to do some sort of reflective blogpost on 2009. 

The thing is, there is nothing more apt than saying that I couldn't have asked for more. Every year, I ask for growth, grace and strength. And that'll be my new years resolution for 2010 as well.

Let the party continue in 2010! Happy New Year everyone! In advance because I'll be heading to KL to ring in the new year. Say hello to a new decade:) 

Italy

I remember earlier this year, when those Facebook quizzes were all the rage, y'know the ones that go "How well do you know...?" Well, one of the questions I set up for my quiz was: What is the one place that I would really like to visit but have not before? And the answer was Italy. 

Prayers were answered by dad!

ROME

This was our first stop, this historical city with thousands of years of history. Somehow, I didn't enjoy it as much as the other places we visited though, maybe cuz it was too historical for my liking? Haha. And we had to walk everywhere. But I have to say, it was really cool being able to see legendary sites such as the Colloseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain etc. up close before your eyes. Thumbs up for that.

VATICAN CITY

Being the smallest independent state in the world, its situated in the middle of Rome, and its main (and probably only?) attraction is the famous St. Peter's Square and accompanying church, which I forgot the name of. We visited one too many churches during the trip, you see. I kept thinking, "Angels and Demons!" throughout the Vatican visit.

FLORENCE

My mum's favourite. Its such a quaint, small town, said to be the place where the Italian Renaissance started. Hence, we visited lots of museums, galleries and all that artsy stuff. Its also the birthplace of Gucci, so my mum was of course, a very happy woman:) 

Best cheesecake I've ever had. Oh my, now I have to fly thousands of miles if I ever want to go near it again:(

PISA

Quite obviously, it is famous for the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which was much smaller than they make it out to be. We still had some fun with it though:)

VENICE

This is probably my favourite place that we visited this trip. Since Venice Island is loaded with water, the views were spectacular. Lots to see, lots to eat, and it gives off a very romantic vibe. And as a bonus, we experienced snow on the last day! Which is apparently very rare in Venice. Sweeeeet:)

VERONA

There's a myth that this is the balcony of Juliet, in this town where Shakespeare based his Romeo and Juliet play on. This was just a day trip, so we didn't see much of the town

MILAN

Needless to say, shopping was incredible here, in one of the world's leading fashion cities. Italians as a whole are generally quite fashionable, even the random ones you see on the street.
